On the davco website the check valves are engine specific. I thought they were all the same until my local mack/ Volvo dealer told me otherwise.

i hope you find the problem with the davco unit and i hope i am wrong, but if you still have the copper injector cups that have not been updated to stainless, that will be your problem.i hope i am wrong.

If my injector cups are bad wouldn't I have coolant in the fuel return? As of now I'm not losing any coolant and I haven't noticed any other issues st all except the occasional hard starting and the davco dropping it's level.

My mechanic told me they do run into this, check valve gets dirty or the spring itself just gets week over time.

I was able to locate the correct check valve today. When I removed the old one the spring was completely missing! It might be on the bottom but I couldn't tell. I put the new one in and so far so good. The real test will be tomorrow morning. I'll let you guys know if it's still hard starting or not. Fingers crossed this was the problem.

Success!!! Engine fired right up this morning. No issues. Granted this was only the first day since I changed the valve but it started normally as it should. I'll follow up in this thread if there's any more issues.

I have a 2007 D-12. The check valve in the Davco 382 fuel pro I have was super easy to change. It's on the fuel in side of the unit and you can change it in under 10 minutes. You need 2 wrenches 1 1/8 and 1 1/16. Once you get the inside nut out if the housing the check valve clips on the inside of that it's just a simple spring and ball attached with a plastic housing. Very easy to do. I don't have the part # with me but it's listed on the Davco website.

No it hasn't. It's helped but not %100. As the weather has gotten colder there have been some issues. If the truck sits overnight 10-12 hours, it usually starts ok. If it sits longer like a whole weekend it starts like it did before. Fires for a split second then quits and I have to crank it for 5-8 seconds before it restarts. However if I think it's going to give me trouble I've been pumping up the primer pump in the morning. I've been told that the plate which houses the secondary fuel filter and primer pump is a known problem area and I may change that assembly next before sending it into Volvo to get looked at.
