Hello. We have a 2005 BXS C15 that cracked a head in 3 places. I’m currently doing an in frame on it. I’ve heard and seen on this forum that Cat is not producing quality replacement heads lately? My boss and I are thinking of trying Highway Heavy Parts head instead of a new or used Cat head. It’s mentioned on the website that HHP heads are made with better material, thicker deck and has improvements made to the water jackets. Anyone here that has tried this head?
These guys were mentioned in another thread. Suppose to be better then CATS. You could give these guys a try. Robert Calixtro American Premium Castings LLC Home <---Link to AP Castings
It was brought up in a thread we bs in. One of the gentleman in there was installing a new CAT head and noticed the cam bearings were not lined up with the oil holes, so he returned it. That is were the company from AP castings was mentioned. I'll tag @superhauler beings he is one that knows about them or had experience. He might know about the HHP heads you mentioned also. That is about all I know. Good luck with your rebuild.
I know a guy that uses these CATALOGO_PRODOTTI and has good luck. Italian company, he buys them through American Crane and tractor parts. The last three Cat reman heads I have put on were brand new castings.
The cylinder head casting can be reconditioned or brand new. The last one I got was for a C13. It was a brand new bare head casting with reconditioned valves for sure. I have gotten completely new parts in reman box here lately too. I think Cat has been stricter with their own in house core criteria lately.
That’s good to see. Many truckers are getting stricter themselves. no money to be made when wheels not rolling.
