But i havent driven since 1999. What would i have to do if Swift hired me? Go out with a trainer or take the whole driving course? Seems silly since i already have a license.

Fill out the online application, a recruiter will call you. No obligations, but a good way to find out what you would need to do.

You will need a refresher even if you have a license this is 2011, you have not drove for 12 years.

I am a recent grad had a friend in my school drove for Werner 3 years ago and he had to go do the whole class over even though he had his license because no one would hire him.

Do a refresher and go somewhere that pays better. Have you checked with Conway TL and Crete? Crete is picky on the school. PTDI certification.

Check into WIA funding. I went to TN Tech. It was $1400. The WIA paid for it. I didn't drive since '87. In TN you can get lotto funds to cover $600 of it. My school was 6 weeks. 218hrs. Pulled loaded and empty. Plus night driving. That made us PTDI certified. Crete will take that.

Not really true, he just needs to look around more than if his experience was recent. Every company is different and there are always small companies or O/O who will let him get in a truck with a short road test.

Look around before you spend your money on a school, thats my advice.

*Edited to add: I am in the same situation and it does suck not having recent experience, but there are jobs out there for people like us without taking a refresher. What really matters is whether or not you can really drive. As in get in a truck, hook up a trailer, pre-trip it and take a thorough road test. I have done this twice recently and had no problems save for swinging wide a little bit at first. If your experience is not recent but you drove for long enough that it comes right back, you can get a job in this market.

    My $.02.
