This. I had a Costco load out of the Atlanta area last month with ~2500 lbs of hazmat. I'm not endorsed (yet), but that bit about limited quantity was how I was able to pull it. Also helps that my company has a dedicated hazmat hotline that can answer any questions I might have, including if I'm even able to pull a load. Truly an invaluable resource IMO
Indeed. Im just waiting for some really good questions related to HM. I recall we wrestled with one last year not too long ago.
If you do not have endorsement on your license, please make sure in the future Mr Diamond does not have a home anywhere near you or your truck. That is just to protect you.
I mean, the whole point of calling was to determine if I even COULD pull it. I was leaning towards no, but apparently since it was all marked as "LTD QTY" they said I was clear...
Even a old dog like me can learn new things. Source. Can You Haul HAZMAT Without an Endorsement? | ExpediteNow Magazine If it does not need Mr Diamond you don't need HM endorsement apparently. With several limited exceptions such as any quantity of toxin. (Poison class?) I usually lean towards me and my big mouth for self preservation. If I have no endorsement there is no Mr Diamond anywhere in the truck or outside of it. Thats the end of it. A company has other drivers they can stick that on. Or they can fire me and stick another driver on it anyway. There is a old saying, not on my 5th wheel today. Its a form of self preservation that drives some of the opinions I express. But it is apparently lawful. It still not going on my 5th wheel. I have held HM for a very long time and turned it in to remove a particularly nasty dispatcher. and I found that life is less stressful with out it so there is that. I don't NEED HM in my life to spice it up because the money is still paid the same toilet paper or boom boom. I do keep a updated HM book on the corner of the computer desk and sometimes when so and so wonders if such a such is HM etc by UNClass or other related numbering I see it as a challenge to get to the root answer, yes or no.
Down load the 'Cargo Decoder' app for your phone. Free app lets you enter any UN number and get the cargo description.... When I was a driver trainer, every owner operator was amazed that us tanker yankers hauled nasty stuff without any added financial incentive. They just couldn't believe Haz Mat wasn't paid a premium rate....Much happier working for a Non- Haz Mat carrier.
