Great! I will definitely check out those practice tests as well as the one mentioned by Palace37.

Hey-Take your time and you can do all right.Over preparing isn't a problem. If it's anything like Arizona's test on a computer if you miss enough to fail the test it's over even if you haven't answered all the questions. Here you can skip questions and go back.Answer the ones you know then if need be figure out the ones that are left. You still have to do the background check/fingerprint thing before they will put the endorsement on your license. In Arizona it's pass the test then do the background check.Take care.Brian

I don't know about your State, but in Texas, if you fail it you can return the next day and take it again, if you fail it the second time, you can still return the next day and take the test a third time; all without having to pay any additional fees. So, do a reasonable job of preparing and then go take the test. You will probably pass it it the first time, but it's no big deal if you fail it. At least, then you will know what to expect when you return to take it the second time. If you have to take it three times, make certain to pass it on the third try, because (I think) if you fail it three times it might affect your CDL in some manner.

Pete Moss - Sounds like the same computer test here in Maryland, you can skip and go back and answer. Thanks for reminding me about the background/fingerprints, I forgot about that and the additional $90 fee that goes with it!

ATX- yup, same here. I could take it the next day here as well with no extra fee. Oh I will definitely be ready and probably take it Monday and get that background stuff rolling...

Or should I wait until I'm hired to get that endorsement?? Hate to spend the money and not get hired! Although, I don't think I will have a problem.

For new HME applicants: The TSA determines the final security threat assessment of all HAZMAT applicants. You will be notified by letter from the TSA of the disposition of your threat assessment usually within 4 to 6 weeks after submitting your fingerprints. If you are approved by TSA, you usually must report to the nearest full-service MVA to take the Hazmat knowledge test and obtain the HAZMAT endorsement. You do not need to schedule an appointment for this step. You will be required to bring your TSA letter, driver's license and valid DOT physical card with you. Note: You must obtain the HME within 6 months from the date of the TSA letter or you may be required to begin the HAZMAT application process over and pay the required fees, which includes your submitting a new set of fingerprints.

I pulled this directly from the MVA site, so it looks like I have to first pay the background fee and start the process, wait for the letter from the TSA, then take the knowledge test. No big deal, since I still have to go through the school anyway. Also. this gives me plenty of time to study! My current permit is good to go for now anyway, I just wanted to get all the tests over with.

Not sure how it works in Maryland but in Jersey you take the test first then go for the backround check. Ask about it when you get your permit or take the other endorsments.

yeah, this step is much more involved. I guess it's why many companies indicate on their websites under qualifications...must be eligible for HAZMAT...or must obtain same within a certain amount of time. I guess as a newbie I could either wait, or go ahead and start the process and maybe be more marketable. Probably really doesn't matter though. Could be that I'm just restless before my school starts! Lol

the hazmat test is easy, way to easy for all the stuff that goes along with dealing with hazardous materials. I read that little bible pretty often, but you can never get it fully.

Yup, know what you mean! All of those classes, divisions, quantities, this can't be stored with this or that, really makes your head spin and think, isn't this why you carry manuals? So you can look this up when necessary. I agree that one could never remember all of this fully, but I do feel better about passing this endorsement test after reading these posts and checking out the practice tests. I really do want to know this stuff and not just forget it after I pass the test!
