Would you be interested in buying your very own bridge complete with toll booths?

Why should ORG limit himself to one thing when he's capable of multi-tasking?
One task is to drive the Big truck.
The second task is writing about the first task.
One without the other wouldn't work.

I mean, would you want a play-by-play accounting of what daily office life is like? Gather 'round the water cooler for the latest gossip about who's doin' who and where they're doin' it. :sleepy2::sleepy4:

Well hey there AfterShock and thank you for the warm welcome sir!

I'll try to respond to all your individual "quotes" without the "individual" quotes...LOL That would take more time than I have left!

Well, there isn't all that much to know about me really. Just a humble carpenter trying rebuild a life for the third and final time now. What led me here would fill a few large books though.

I'm very familiar with forum posting as I belong to several and even a senior, and rather well respected member of some. That's why I was a bit surprised by the 50 post to PM rule here. First time I've seen that. But yes I agree, this thread is a keeper for sure!

Well it was a "snooze" and not so much "sleep" but it just shows that I felt comfortable with ORG driving. I spent a month OTR with a friend so I have a small taste of what it's like. Now of course I didn't drive so the wheels were stopped at night and I'm not ashamed to admit that many of those nights were rather tough for sleeping with trucks around us running and refers tied to our butt. But I made due. It's something one must get accustomed to over time. I even spoke with many truckers that say they can't sleep without such sounds and or motion in a team case....LOL

My opinion don't count?? LOL...I don't really see myself as a "player" in all this but since you mentioned it, I understand your point. I guess in some "small" way I may be but ORG has done the work and I'm not one to cut in if ya know what I mean.

I'm really glad that many of you veterans can see the difference between the bad ones and potential good ones still. I imagine it must be tough to keep an open mind regarding that sometimes. Some of us are VERY serious about the responsibility of the task at hand. In fact, from the first day of school I told my instructor what my definition of this job is. He liked it so much he said he'd use it in future classes. Simply put....."As a professional driver, we drive an 80,000 pound weapon of mass destruction at 60 MPH on public highways and through residential neighborhoods". In my humble opinion, that DEMANDS a serious attitude and attention to detail. Given half a chance, I'll give it no less that that. As I'm sure ORG will.

    Skipping down a bit here.....

I'm very sincere, always eager to please (in my business it was required) and I think I have a pretty good attitude as well. I only wish I could "show" folks that but alas, my situation as of now has me pretty much stuck in a basement with no way to get around. So I have no options other than apps online and phone conversations. I honestly feel if they could "see my eyes" as we spoke, I'd get a shot at being hired. I could always sell myself to my customers that way.

Thanks for telling me I may be a bit too impatient about hearing back from these companies. Perhaps there's still hope??? (On knees PRAYING he is) I want more than anything to find a "Career" not just a job. I don't intend to leave any company that hires me unless I'm simply being road hard and put away wet with no concern from them. I have to put my app with Schneider in today. I've been so busy at this I actually thought I already had. Well, in truth, I did back on the 13th but the single page "flier like app" the school gave us apparently isn't even recognized by them. So as ORG said, it has to be done online. MY MY...I'm loosing track (if not my mind here)...LOL

Well, I never did require much sleep which is good. With so many mouths to feed and being self employed, I never got much anyway. But I could really use a bit now as it's been a few days without. Stress over my circumstances has worn me rather thin I'm afraid.

It;s a pleasure to converse with you as well AfterShock and I thank YOU for your ever....UPBEAT...attutde sir! It helps for sure!!

    Chris

I got a message from Swift Transportations regarding my application to them. I left a message with the recruiter because she was not at her desk. Since I couldn't talk to her and my nerves are up, I thought I'd ask all of you to provide your speculation.

Why would she be calling me? To tell me I have a job? To verify some information? Please let the pointless speculative speculation begin!

So I got a call back from Swift basically telling me the days when their orientations take place, their pay for training (about $450 per week), and their pay scale thereafter which is so-so for what I'd consider an entry-level company (based on what I've read about them).

The fact of the matter is I'm looking to get 6 months of experience, and should I want to stay with the company I'll do so. Otherwise, I'll get the experience and be on my way.

So now I find out if I'm hired or not by calling them tomorrow around 5 PM EST. I really hope I get hired. I need to move forward with this, begin to make some income, and get some experience. Believe me, the school I attended was very good, but I'm hardly in a position to sit around and wait and still retain the skills I've learned. I'll be fine, I'm just anxious about this process I suppose.

Hey Buddy, I think this is GOOD news! [IMG]

If they called and told you about the days when their orientation takes place etc..., it "sounds" as if you may made it that far at least. Now whether you get hired or not you'll find out "after" that I beleive.

In either case, it sounds like you're moving forward at least. God speed buddy, I'm pulling for ya!!

    Everett and AfterShock Thank this.

We'll see. She asked me about my driving record, and while I included that information in the application, I talked about it. I'm sure this application has to go to "safety" for approval. You mind if I give you a call later tonight?
