I'm probably missing your point but a F 350 with a trailer is more than likely over 10,000 lbs and what does the door sticker say.

For the purposes of this discussion define ''commercial'' vehicle.

    (2) Is designed or used to transport more than 8 passengers (including the driver) for compensation; or

    (3) Is designed or used to transport more than 15 passengers, including the driver, and is not used to transport passengers for compensation; or

    (4) Is used in transporting material found by the Secretary of Transportation to be hazardous under 49 U.S.C. 5103 and transported in a quantity requiring placarding under regulations prescribed by the Secretary under 49 CFR, subtitle B, chapter I, subchapter C.

    Thats self explanatory.

I could with enough funds purchase a honking 55,000 pound RV with big rig equipment, tires, suspension brakes and engine etc. But since it is a private vehicle I go past the scales with it. The licensing for it would be a relatively minor upgrade. The worst of it would be the revenuer taxes on the thing.

So does a cargo van not carrying hazmat or passengers have to pull in grossing 9000 lbs?

Would you need an air brake endorsement for that?

It's been a few years since I rolled through Neb. So I don't remember the wording on the signs. IIRC. It said all vehicles over 8,000 lbs.

Hopefully someone can find the pic of the sign and post it. I'm not having any luck with my phone.

Motorhomes and Uhaul and what not blow by all day long without getting hassled though. Most of them probably don't even read the signs. LOL. I know my dad never went through any scales when he packed up a 26ft Uhaul and moved out of Indiana. He knew nothing about it even though the signs are right there on the highway.

You are still considered a commercial vehicle even when bobtailing.
