I was trying to uncouple two three and a halfs after a foodgrade wash. Long day, very tired, had a bit of a kink in the hose and when they separated BAM!! The hose end with the spool inside it whacked me right between the eyes, cut me deep and dazed the crap out of me. I got the truck back to the terminal, went home to get a couple hours sleep, then went back to the yard to run the load. Got back to the yard about noon, and when I turned in my paperwork the dispatch lady yelled for the boss. He took one look at me and said "What did you DO?" I started to apologize for "running outlaw", but he interrupted me and said, " No, what happened to your FACE?" I went to the men's room and looked in the mirror. I had a big cut on the bridge of my nose that was still oozing a little, and those pooled-blood "racoon rings" under each eye.

I got sent to medical, and they xrayed me and said I broke my nose.

To this day I can tell when a high pressure front is coming without watching the weather on tv.

I haul CBOB gasoline(conventional blendstock for oxygenate blending) from terminal to terminal. We have to keep the pump running to clear out the hose. Basically the reason I smashmouthed myself was because I parked a little to close to the pump causing the hose to kink a little and basically handling the hose coupling properly, sometimes the coupling will have more pressure on one side than the other, plus the pump I was using is pretty fast. I found out the other guy I was in in orientation with banged his nose with the coupling on the same pump too. I had to have one lower tooth grown down a bit. Its going good now, got my card on Friday so I will be big boy tanking tomorrow night....
