I can scale 47,000 lbs with my dry van and 45,000 lbs with the reefer no problem. Both are Great Danes. Really for most trucks 45,900 should easily scale in a van unless you have a large car - W900L studio sleeper 15 or 16L motor, etc and/or one of the heavy built van trailers.

I think they can scale 48,000 with a reefer trailer.

That means you can put 47200 in the box with a 300 pound driver and stuff roughly plus or minus 100.

If you are not delivering so far away as to need much fuel it may serve you to keep her at half tanks. Particularly if you are crossing scales in one direction or another.

I understand the details that the devil likes to dance on with the front axle weights.

I don't want to confuse, mislead or cause trouble with the following thought...

I never really cared what was on the front steer as long the drives and tandem are lawful weight or below.

And that ends the thought in my view. Now having said that, I really should care. If they had tires big enough to put 20K on the front axle I'll put em on there. You would think that the engineering geniuses would have tried duals up front of some kind. Not necessarily the ones we are familiar with.

I set mt 5th wheel so the load has very little effect on them, I want my drives to carry the weight, even empty my steers are at 11800, loading might take them up to 12000. Up I'm kind of a new driver just barely 3 million miles or so. I just never need to mess with my 5th wheel.
