We’re in the safest time in the country and a majority of the developed world. It’s not so much dangerous as it has risks. Yeah you can get robbed in these run down areas. Even on the highways. Be smart, keep your head on a swivel and take notes for next time you go through their. If you’re looking for trouble in these areas, don’t worry it’ll find you.

Exactly. Shut off the news and live your life. Contrary to what they might have you think it’s not that bad out here.

I've never had any major problems but I will say the eastern market in Detroit is on my no camping list unless I'm at wolverine pack behind a fence .
It kind of seems like some of the mid size citys are getting wild like okla city , Tulsa, Memphis, st Louis .....I live in Omaha Nebraska and dont even like going to north O in the daylight and wont go up there after dark , but even that is confined to certain areas and is usually hoods shooting hoods .
Ironically I regularly park on the street at customer in Newark nj in the iron bound section and have never been bothered .
A few years ago a buddy of mine from Minnesota had a drop in north O and I told him dont go up there after dark but he just laughed at me ....a couple hours later he called me back from sapp bros in council bluffs and he wasnt laughing .lol

Well, if it was a clan town yes it would be.
It's not a clan town though, that's ancient history. Heck in 1993 the clan tried to bring in out of towners for a protest and the towns folk chased them off.

Now refusing to go into Detroit, well as it's in the top 5 cities in America for crime rate, yea I can see it. of course living outside Flint, which is also in the top 5, I'm not bothered much by crime rate. Just be aware and don't get between two gangs and one will be fine.

I doubt it was gunshots. There is a fireworks store right next to the Gary, IN TA and the crazy guy who runs it likes to demonstrate his illegal m-80s to potential customers.

I don’t know how he hasn’t been shut down, but I definitely recommend checking that place out.

I've slept in Jersey City, outside the Power plant along the train tracks. I've slept in the slums of Rahway, Nj, Sayreville Nj at the steel mill. Gary Indiana, and the Pilot in Birmingham. These are all places I was told not to stay in. Everyone said they're bad areas at night. I never had an issue.

The scariest place I spent the night? Bath, SC. In a quarry. In the middle of nowhere. And I swear to this day, I heard people all around my truck after the sun went down. I don't think I slept more than an hour, but I didn't open the curtain to see what was going on. Creepy..

I always kept to myself, didn't bother anyone, and nobody bothered me. With that mindset, I never had an issue anywhere I went.

I always figured the rifraff wasn't worried about me anyways.
