I think you'll find lupe unless you can find a co. here that would sponsor you in driving. Most of the types they're looking for are white collar professionals.
(Its a 457 visa but I havent read alot into it)
As to pay rates, alot of them pay by the Kilometre, some of the jobs I've seen out there can be anywhere from 28-32c per Km for Semis, and paying up to 40-42c per Km for B Doubles. Most employment agencies pay by the hour, I do some of that here on local runs (casual, not full time) and its paying just under $27 an hour. Overtime is paid at time and a half until 10 hrs, then its double time up til 12 hours.
But yeah, the aussie dollars up around 97-98c at the moment, but the cost of living here is alot more than over in the US. My missus constantly reminds me of that every time we go to the supermarket here
How hard is it for an American to be hired as a truck driver in Australia?

Hi folks just wanted to make a short comment on the floods in Queensland Australia some countries are putting out warnings to there citizens saying not to travel to Australia The Canadian and German governments in particular were telling people to avoid coming over which is incorrect there are areas in Queensland that are of course flooded, most of these are in remote areas of the state with the exception of Gympie Rockhampton and Brisbane, most coastal cities are open for business and tourism, especially tourist destinations like the Whitsunday Islands having said that our cyclone season does start in summer around December to April my advice to people who do plan to travel here is leave it till our fall or Autumn from May to November there is almost no chance of cyclones or floods.

thats through Adecco josh - There's quite a few different ones offering all kinds of work...supermarket stuff, wharf work. local and changeover through APS and other agencies and theres a site I see a few jobs from too - www.transjobs.com.au - Havent taken any work from them, but see quite a few jobs by email coming through
One reason I'm not that keen on going back to FT work is the money.... - I'd love to get over to the west at some stage and do the big stuff....like Mitchells for one, hauling triple trains ...as long as the moneys good !!! LOL -
