My daughter too, I couldn't take my eyes off her for second. Jackson Browne song always came to mind, " A teachin' her how to walk, but she's already on the run".

This post plus, remain professional and get a motorcycle ratchet strap. Why the strap? Put it through the door handles and rachet tight, that way the creep who saw you walk back to your truck and has a bad idea, can't get into your truck. I also carry a mag light 8 D cell battery so it will hurt when they are hit by it. Most of the "guys" (male and female) you will meet out there will be above board and helpful if the need arises, but there are others out there who will not be so nice. But again, like the above post said, you could find the same thing at your home town WalMart. Be aware, be professional and be smart. And you will be just fine.

Looping your seatbelt through the door handle works too. I carry a can of starter fluid in my purse for protection. It's ether, so it'll drop anyone with a good spray to the face, and is found at any truck stop.

Haha not huge, but it's big enough to fit all my crap in it... My tools stay in my tool bag and jockey box though. I don't think there's a purse out there big enough for all my tools and heavy haul gear!

Exactly! ;) I also carried a can of bear mace in my truck when I long hauled. It's technically not a weapon for humans either. Keep a "tire thumper" (mine was a big ol' sledgehammer) right beside your seat too, just in case. If anyone starts harassing you when you're parked, it's nice to have some "persuasion" close at hand...

I agree, you'll be fine, use common since and be aware of your surroundings. Some truck stops are not as safe as others. Some nights I don't even get out of the truck. I keep food and a poti potty with me, or else use the restroom while up at the fuel island after fueling then go park. I park where it is well lit. Get to the truck stops early if possible before dark, it is easier to find a parking spot. Keep your doors lock at all times. And do not be too proud to ask for help. I've had lots of wonderful men drivers help me in the beginning. Don't be afraid to be friendly smile and say good morning, it makes your day go so much better. I like the CB in heavy traffic or sometimes just to listen for entertainment. Sometimes a fellow driver will chat with you, its nice and it makes the miles go by. If there is a jerk on and its offensive just shut it off, simple. Some drivers really do just want to be helpful. You'll meet a lot of really good people along the way. The nasty guys are cowards and do dumb stuff like won't let you pass or say stupid stuff on the radio or cut you off or try to scare you. That's why I like the CB I turn it on when I'm, at a new truck stop and if i hear a lot of talk about drugs or prostitution I make sure I don't get out, or I leave. That's kinda rare though, but it happens. Even male drivers sometimes don't feel safe at night. And another thing never park someplace at night where you are the only truck, like along the road on off ramps. or abandoned closed gas stations or parking lots. Oh and try to keep all but a little bit of cash on a debit card so the beggars and bums leave you alone. Sorry I don't carry cash.
