And many of us wanted to drive a "big rig" since we were kids. For baby boomers, we worked hard at our careers, raised families, and did the 'responsible' thing. Now it is time to fulfill those long-ago dreams.

Started at 56. Just celebrated one year driving. Every day is an adventure.

DenaliDad & myself have found we have similar situations.

While not quite 50, I did start over the last year at 48yrs, after retiring early from a government job

Thought about it thirty years ago, when I worked at a truck stop for a few years in college.

Now, wish I would have done it back then, thirty years ago!

well I'm 49....close enough? I've been a carpenter/contractor for 17 years, i enjoy hard work, just don't want to do it ALL day every day. schools almost over and i have a job offer pulling skateboards. I'll still get my exercise, just not all day long. thanks to all on ttr, I've learned a lot already.

Getting ready to at 40, same story. Always wanted to try this and now with the kids grown I finally can. Sick of working the night shift, looking at dirty factory walls, and putting up with jackwagon coworkers who can only can make themselves look good by trying to throw someone else under the bus. I like the idea of waking up in a new location every day. Being alone in a truck with my thoughts and my guitar sounds pretty good to me.

Wasn't 50. Was 70. Trucking is the ONLY job I could find that does not age discriminate.
Can't live on ss. Divorces have a nasty way of screwing up plans.
But I found a nice expedite job. A little easier but still otr. Really like it.

I'm 61 and have been thinking of quitting my job and start driving a truck for over a year now. Thought I might drive a few years and retire. Burnt out with the job I have now. I say go for it :)

Actually started when I was just a kid in 1970 and stopped when Nixon mandated the 55mph speed limit in 1974. However I restarted after I was 60 after a career in the construction business. I thoroughly enjoy trucking but I really miss being a carpenter.

Hi BobbyMisc, actually, 50 is a good age to start trucking. Many of life's hassles are behind you, and you can focus better. (kids and wife nagging you to get home) It's one of the few industries where older people are welcomed, as I'm 60 and am finding out no one wants to hire me in a non-trucking job. Be advised, however, it's not the most physically demanding job, the truck does most of the work, you just keep it on the road, but there will be times, you will have to do some physical labor, restacking pallets, dragging hoses around, ( flatbed is VERY demanding),depending on what you go into. Also remember, you drive all day(or night) EVERY day (or night) and just be sure you are ready for that. Good luck.

Started at 55, but had driven TV uplink trucks that didn't require CDL license, enjoying it.
