I have to go with Trashtrucker on this one. I drive a 65 MPH truck. I'm not a rookie and I try not to be an idiot.
I have endured many an RV driver who drops his speed considerably without warning(looking at a map or spilled his coffee maybe?) only to decide to resume his speed after I start around, leaving me hanging out there looking like an idiot.

He is either independently wealthy or he isn't buying the fuel!

Please look back further, I still get over 6mpg with the all idling time. A diesel engine burns very little fuel at idle. I'm not talking about idling over night, or for 3 or 4 hours. I just think it is silly to kill a truck for 5 minutes, or even 30 minutes, you won't save a large amount of fuel. You also have to consider the wear and tear on the batteries, starters, and the engine. Old timers used to never turn off a truck, and yes I realize that was when fuel was cheap. But, motors aren't cheap, and down time and repair costs are way worse than saving 1/2 mpg. JMHO

4 Wheelers will do this just because they don't want you to pass them.

There sure are some hostile people posting here. No wonder truckers have such high blood pressure. Ya'll dont know how to deal with stress!
Im goverened too and go through the same crap with other governed trucks. I just back out of it for a little bit(sometimes 5mph) to let the joker quickly pass, then I let some following distance build up and resume my speed. I dont care that hes faster and I dont care that hes in front of me. I probally lose a minute a day by doing this. Is it really that difficult to help someone out?...whether theyre in the wrong or not. The fact is...theyre trying to pass. Period. Who the hell cares if they should or shouldnt be doing it? Just let 'em go and go about your day. Are you in that big of a hurry? We seem to complain about the 4wheelers being in a big hurry all the time. Sounds like there are alot of hypocrites here.
Ya'll with the big motors are somethin' else. :biggrin_25513:

I do that as well. We are within 1/2 mph give or take with most Wal-Mart trucks and those guys are great about backing out and I do the same thing for them(or anybody else for that matter).

Something else I do, is back out if I'm about to pass a heavier truck near the top of the hill.
I'm always running light with this automotive stuff and run a fairly constant speed.
I won't get in front of the truck I know is going to pass me right back as soon as we top the grade.

Yonder, JustSonny and longbedGTs Thank this.

Walmart is pretty selective about their drivers, or so I've heard!

They are and it seems to have paid off. They have a pretty good crew over there.
There are a few that stop at a couple of my regular hangouts and I haven't met one yet with that nose-in-the-air attitude.
