If you replace the engine you can also go for a few extras like a new clutch, rear engine mounts and maybe some exhaust. All those parts are really easy to replace with the engine out.

If you are interested in looking for a used motor let me know and I will get you a number for the guy in Sumter, SC that might have one. He might be able to put it in for you as well.

For $34k, I'd simply look at buying another truck.

Give Richard Kerns in Atlanta a call. I know they ship engines across the US. It will probably be cheaper than rebuilding the one you have.

Yep, this is a good point too. At what point do you walk away? There is alot to consider.

The only way I would think about a used motor is if it came with some kind of warranty or guarantee. Used, is still used. You already have the expense of the down time and engine swap, plus misc parts. A good used engine may be more money than you think. If you do have a problem with it, where do you turn? The guy who sold the engine or the guy who put it in? Each of those guys will be pointing fingers at each other, leaving you holding the bag! Buyer beware!

still waiting for other quotes, Peterbuilt told me $25,000 engine + labor, around $30,000 Ill get kenworth and cummins and compare. I am fine with idea of putting new engine in. Around $32,000 for new engine + my 2006 T2000 (in very nice condition, never had no problems) seems like its still better then $55,000 for 2008-09 truck with 440,000 mi (used Turbo, Compressor, water pump and so on) compared to new engine and everything new, + warranty. The only thing that bothers me is that i have to pay cash, there is no financing.

K, just got a quote from Cummins, they said around $25,000 with labor. But the engine will be recon, so its not new, but rebuilt to new since they don't make isx's. Also 2 years 200,000 and 3 years 300,000 for all major parts. What you you think? Recon is it still good as new? will I get at least 900,000 on it?

Recon is what you will get. Sorry if I gave you impression of a "brand new" engine. Recon is just as good, rebuilt to Cummins factory specs, nothing to worry about!
