You keep saying no forced dispatch, are you thinking this will let you put your drivers on 1099s?

I hadn't planned on trying to make the drivers I hire independent contractors, I don't think they would qualify. What I am talking about is giving them the option to decide what loads they will take and what ones they will turn down. Most companies treat their drivers like indentured servants having to take whatever load is sent to the truck. Since I am the truck owner in a contract relationship with the carrier my trucks aren't forced dispatch. I could force dispatch any drivers I hire, but I would prefer to give them the option to choose their own loads.

The reason most of this industry is forced dispatch is because wheels need to be turning to be earning. . I've found if given the option most drivers these days will sit in the truck playing video games rather then working.

But good luck! Awesome that you've got your truck paid off

You say no forced dispatch but if your leased into a bigger carrier they are gonna want them trucks moving or they will cut your lease and find someone else. The only way it would possibly work is I you found drivers that actually wanted to work (at least 5 years driving experience minimum) and a clean driving record. No new drivers or recent school grads because history shows they just don't seem to wanna work all that hard. Not always the case. Good luck in your endeavor. Hope it works out. Keep us updated!

no you couldn't legally 1099 em. also way would you give control to the drivers you hire? its your dollar you need to take the reigns. you could have high pqying loads all over where you are and going to good lanes and the driver is like.....hmmmmm, I could go to here or there and make a decent penny, but I would really like to head to the nice weather right now and maybe get stuck for a couple of days waiting for a decent load out and check out the sites. you can do this if youre the owner but I would think you would not want your driver to just go to places he/she has never been and have mini vacations at will. maybe offer them a couple different loads you already know are going to make you some money and keep them rolling. also, I would never work for a guy like you(leased trucks and leased on) on percentage. I need to know im being paid for all the BS that takes place. so .40 a mile minimum for a decent driver with detention of at least $12 and hour after 2 hours and $100 layover every 24 hours no matter if you bill/get paid detention or not. still with those numbers your not going to make much money if any with a leased truck to a carrier probably making maybe $1.50 per mile. and everything else that can and will happen you could be $10 $20 grand in the hole in no time. good luck
