Records, records, records... If you can find a truck that has service records with it, that will let you know what kind of treatment the truck had. Take the truck to a mechanic and have it inspected, top to bottom. Look for grease fittings, some companies are buying "low maintainence trucks." They have no grease fittings anywhere. The thought is that if you don't introduce contamination in the grease it will last forever. Wrong!!! You really need to do your homework, insist that the dealer have an oil analysis done, so that you can see the results, make them explain what the metals are in the oil, and where each of the metals come from, liners, bearings, etc. These things are just the tip of the iceburg, get professional help in making your decision, even if you have to pay a couple of hunderd of dollars for the mechanic to inspect the truck, it could save you thousands later. Good luck with your shopping.
How often does a truck need to be serviced?
