I have cat-eyes on 5 trucks (same basic thing as crossfires). It makes checking super easy. Airing up in inclement weather is 100 times easier, you inflate both at the same time, and the valve is easily accessible. I've had blowouts and the 2nd tire was fine. Major time saver, well worth the $100/axle, especially in the winter when there's 4 feet of slow and it's -10 out. The only drawbacks are more to do when you pull a rim, (you have to remove the unit first) and if you have a slow leak, figuring out which tire means disabling the system and testing a lot, instead of just testing a lot.

"Gator caps." You can get a handful from any truck stop for free or maybe for the change in your pocket. You can check and fill without removing it at all. I have them on all my wheels.

OP: extra long needle nose pliers have worked ok for me in the past. Checking inside tire is never easy or fast. Putting stems 180 from each other is the best way and is pretty much standard practice (at least around here anyways).

I've had problems with the flow through caps when using a tire gauge on them. Some will give an accurate reading, that is allow the air to flow through to the gauge properly. Some times they will not. I've bought several of the same brand at the same time and some are OK and others I have to take off and use the gauge directly on the stem. Can't see any reason some work correctly and some don't.
As someone else stated I have had one leak after checking them over the weekend and have a flat come Monday.
I liked them when they worked but have had so much trouble with them I have mostly quit using them.

Some tire pressure gauges are missing that tiny internal rubber o ring that seals it against pass through valve caps. They will seat against the valve stems without the o ring but not the pass through cap.

I don't know if that's a quality control issue or if it depends on the actual supplier because I had two different road pro tire gauges and one had the o ring and sealed against pass through caps and the other didn't.

What he said, hook up to that crazy octopus air station. Love's even had a thing where they give 3 free times at that thing without fueling.
