How to completely suck out the hoses on a pump off???

    No one mentioned making a loop as you walk out the suction hose!

    With the pump still running, if you hold the open end up till it gets higher than your head and it starts to droop over let the end come down to make a loop. walk the hose rolling the loop until you can raise it up and let most of it drain into the pump. The product will stay ahead of the loop and not drain back behind you as you walk the hose.

    When using a 'positive displacement' tractor pump w/ top suction, you can then drain the small remainder into a bucket as you disconnect the suction hose after you race the pump some.

    Always close the customer valkve as soon as possible after shutting down the pump. A lot of unloaders would close their line after you raced the pump and signaled that you were shutting the pump off.

    Gotta keep your job interesting, or it it just a J.O.B. which means "Just Over Broke"...lol.

    You're getting some good advice here...just use common sense and expect there to be some product in a line or behind a connection at ALL times no matter what they tell you, because the laws of physics dictates it. Handle a vapor recovery hose after unloading gasoline (if you haul it,) just like a product hose because they do get liquid in them, primarily due to liquid getting into the vapor recovery system during loading or moving and the liquid sloshing in the compartments and entering the vapor rail, etc. and it escapes through that line to the lowest point. Just hold it up higher than the trailer connection after you're done a few times...like you would the other one.

    We could get into the mechanics of positive displacement pumps, theory of relativity and all the scientific phenomenon available at MIT, but at the end of the day it's all about using your head in every way to prevent spills and thrills.:wink:
