I felt real depression setting in one time when I tried training for a company that used Split Sleeper ever single day in order to handle the layover nature of their insane U.S. Mail run. It was also in a day cab so they used a motel with the sun coming in so I struggled to get any sleep during the day.
The trainer had somehow been doing this run for year and I think he was going nuts from it, but kept doing it for the pay.
I quit that ######## and fortunately found something else, but stuff like that shows what enough fatigue can do to you.Jazz1 Thanks this. -

The other time between DC and Roanoke the bus ran into some traffic trying to get clear of 66 and settle onto 81 to GO make time. We were late. This gal about a little younger, maybe 23 or so for certain, not much younger than my 29 or so at that time. She settled into that empty seat and then nested into the great big warm parka jacket and so on I had been sleeping in.
Sunrise came along and I saw that she rested very well. I think it was in the area of Roanoke where the bus made a stop in roanoke area round that one McDonalds across from the Petro where the truckers fueled at on 81.
To this day I should have bought her Coffee, Breakfast and so on. But what she was more interested in was another nap so none of that. So I stayed put and worried about breakfast prior to Knoxville where you had to climb a fairly steep hillside to get to it. I Think she was off at Bristol or some of the stops prior to I-40 not sure.
She caught up on her sleep. I did ok myself, but something like that only happens once in a life time I would suppose and let it go. The driver was a good one, keeping his RPM's stable without stabbing his airride or brakes too much all the way down 81 once off 66 and onto 40. This would have been around maybe March of 96 maybe. Not too certain.
I generally do not let anyone other than a wife make room in that bunk and vice versa. Im just one of those people who would just as soon stick a twin in the corner and nest that with a pile of stuff to nest in.shatteredsquare Thanks this. -
Exercise
Anti depressants
Energizing thoughts and visualization.
Vitamins or supplements like choline, ginseng, st. John's wort
Watch the lunar phases (no lie!) They play havoc with your moods. Ask any psychiatric nurse or jailhouse guard. Better yet, check out the stats on how many suicides there are during the new moon or how violent crime parks during a full moon.
Take your tent and sleeping bag along with you so you can use mother nature more than the metal box to rest in.
Change careers when it just ain't worth it anymore. -

They say depression is anger turned inward. At the risk of boring everybody I have a lot in my life to be depressed over. I refuse to go down that road. When I feel the blues coming I change the channel.
HopeOverMope and ChadFelix Thank this.
