How to get connected to others in the trucking industry?

I keep hearing about trade shows and how they can benefit drivers in varies way's. Does anyone know of any trade shows I can attend that would place me around other drivers? Do they actually benefit you? they worth the cost to attend? I would like to go to a few rig shows does anyone know where I can start besides googleing intermodal trade pblications.
