If it has a different plate number I would contest the citation. Call the clerk of court and ask to have a judge review the case. Be prepared to provide documentation to support your objection, then ask for the citation to be dismissed. You might find the judge will dismiss it as an error in your favor.

If you did or did not does not matter. You have to answer the summons. All tickets are given on the belief you may or may not have done something wrong. Not for 100% you did break the law. The can just make stuff up and hand you a pile of tickets. Its up to you to prove otherwise. We got a traffic light ticket on a car we no longer owned because it still had our plates on it. Just a simple phone call got it taken care of.

That sounds like how they do business in Chicago. I know several people who have received parking tickets in the mail from the city...many of them have never been there. My parents had a lawyer friend clear up the matter. Others I know made the call themselves. In either case, they aren't going to want the expense of a trial when you can clearly prove you were nowhere near the location of the violation at the time.

1st of all, who issued the ticket. State, city, dot. Call them. Don't hire a lawyer until you have to. If you ran the scale, by law they have to pull you over then, and if not, send a picture of you with the summons. Ask for proof. Sounds like a scam.

Have you checked you logs to see if you were even there at the time/place stated on the summons?
