Ever heard the phrase "hotdog in a hallway " think of that. If the nozzle is way smaller than the opening you might be doing something wrong. Not always but...

And doesn't diesel in gas usually lead to catastrophic failure? Knew a farmer once that had the bulk truck come out and fill his tractor. Bulk truck driver screwed up and filled him with gas. Farmer said tractor was running great right up until it wasn't.

Free gas, had a driver do that. Just gave it away to people who were at the station.

Before you put the nozzle in your tank squirt some out and smell it......

My first diesel was a gmc pickup. I pulled up to the diesel pump when there were still attendants running the pumps, 600 miles on the clock of the pickup and told the girl it takes diesel only. I went into the gas station to use the bathroom, got out and she said all done, paid on my gulf card, got my receipt, logged it on my little red book and left. I get not three miles away, the engine went cough cough ... BOOM!

Gas in the tank is what the dealer said when they got ahold of the truck, I sued the gas station and gulf (they owned the station) to replace the truck, they settled out of court and I got myself a brand new suburban which is what is they offered, and I absolutely loved it until someone loved it more than I did one night, and it was another diesel.

the girl was never fired either, the gulf rep said she put gas in someone’s nice new Cadillac Seville which made it a paperweight when she started to work there ten years before and they had to buy the person a new one, which was back ordered for months so they rented a car for the person.

I think the OP is not having this problem because of the lack of identification of the proper product to pump. I think it is 100% being absentminded and just not pumping the correct product.

Contrary to what some think humans can NOT multitask and give both tasks 100% of our attention. I think this OP needs to learn to STOP trying to multitask and put 100% of their attention to the task of refueling.

Multi-tasking? Isn't that reading the paper while you're on the john?

Your comment reminded me of another fueling issue that has not been brought up. That is having regular fuel put into a vehicle not tuned for it. One of my old Terminal managers had his son do this to his European sports car (sorry forgot the make) cost a huge amount of money to fix. I have also heard some motorcycles also can get screwed up this way.

first job after college was a small construction company as the gofer for the maintenance guys. First 'job' every morning was to pump 150 gal of gas and diesel into the fuel truck and go fuel the job sites. Never screwed it up. Rest of my time was delivering equipment with a really old R600 and Rodgers 'Croucher' lowbed and parts running; you went wherever the parts were....

I'm lucky enough to have high-flow diesel pumps that are not restricted to heavy trucks. My Ram gets filled from the same pump as my big trucks. Our local station has three of them and there is always one open. A Ram will fill in under 2 minutes with one on the first click.
