Maybe that's why he keeps changing. No good ones will take him.

Always the "new guy" at the company. A tough way to make it up to the top of the ladder, if you keep jumping off. I do not recommend that employment strategy.

i actually worked with a co-driver in my earlier years, that changed occupations each time he had a problem, or got bored.

HIS father-in-law, had asked him, (as he was going to trucking school) "is this one more job you're gonna just try out, while my daughter is pregnant again and you have one kid now at home"?

he told his FIL, "no, this is final"

i was very surprised he had told me of his FIL telling him that.

had that been me, in his shoes, i would have kept my mouth SHUTTY..!!!!!

    fast forward a few weeks.

we had to drive west, thru the rockies, that scared the begeebis out of him.

then as we headed back east, we got caught up in a tornado, in KS somewhere.

    that finished him off..

we got back to the terminal in OH, and he could not call the airlines fast enough to get the hell home....

i stayed in OH, for a new co-driver, then we came home for a week off.

so much for "Dave", the "occupation jumper"

Last job I quit I had to beg them to get me to the terminal to return the truck. All of a sudden it went from always being there, to there’s no loads coming this way.

Give notice if they've been decent. If they've been extremely anal walk in throw the keys and tell them to drive it up their anal canal.

You need to give notice. I recently moved to a new company and the recruiter here helped explain to me why it's important to give notice.
    1. If you quit and drop the truck off at a drop yard or terminal and it's an unauthorized location they can claim abandonment, which will prevent you from being hired almost anywhere.
    2. If you quit without notice it will be on your employment verification and your DAC that you quit W/O notice and recruiters/ safety departments do not like to see that.
    3. Giving notice shows good character.

That being said. When giving your notice (she helped me with this again) she said it was important to document it in writing & ask them to confirm that they received your notice in writing (protection from abandonment). Also document the condition of your truck with pictures and/or video. And document the location was approved in writing when dropping the truck off.

Doesn't matter if you give 1-2 days notice or 2 weeks, just give notice. I personally would give notice once you are under dispatch on the way home or once you are already on hometime so you don't have to worry about them sending you out on a load half way across the country.

I do not understand why ANY Trucking Company would do that. Makes absolutely no sense to keep a driver in the truck that is ready to move on. SMH

Thank you for a very level headed response. That is EXACTLY how it works! Particularly the "character" part. Not much of that going around these days:D:cool:

    Never trust a recruiter.
