When it's left up to me, I wait around until 10 to 11 am before I start my day in the summertime, then I'll drive until after it gets dark. I'm not going to sit around in 95 degree weather and roast in a truck. It's going to idle.

Also, pick up one or two of these:

It's a nice fan, it runs on batteries, or you can plug it into a cig lighter. It puts out an amazing amount of air, and they got them at all the major truck stops for $20.

Yep, I have seen that before, but never on a company truck. Is that running off an inverter or did they have a generator?

I got the infamous "Your idle is too excessive, it's over 50%" message last week.

I replied...your load planning is lousy too. Can we move the truck, instead of parking it in 95 degree heat ?

    No response.....yet.

Chances are you probably would not want to sleep in a coffin sleeper anyway. Kind of like to practice for a coffin sleeper, try getting dressed and undressed inside of a sleeping bad.

Keep in mind COE's were considered a improvement.

Best way to sleep without running your truck is get a room.

Funny, they can spend as much diesel as it takes to keep a load frozen in Phoenix AZ. in the summer time waiting for hours to unload at a cold storage. But When it comes to the driver? Nothing. You roast.

And we wonder why trucking has become the way it has. The dead beef have more rights than does the one transporting it!

Where do you find this exemption, I can locate a pet exemption on the CA no idle law. Only sites that list it as a myth. This would be most interesting if the truckers took care of the pet adoption problem....

No, when we did desert training out there we stayed in tents until it was time to go out in the field. 1 Week? Come on don't make smart little comments like that. They didn't have A/C in the tents, Hummers, duece n halfs, or tracked vehicles. I think the only vehicles that had A/C were the Hemmits? Can't remember what they were called. Then we stayed in the field for 4weeks and both times I went for that training was in the middle of the summer. I also took my basic and ait at Ft. Bliss during the sumer and I survived, granted all this was almost 20 years ago. On top of that when they did mock chem warefare out at Ft. Irwin, you had to get in your Mopp suit and dawn your mask, then continue exerting energy with all that gear on. Even today when I'm doing tree work, come lunch time I have no problem taking a nap in the dead of summer. I don't think I'm different then anybody else, but maybe I'm just used to it. Again, I'll agree in 2010 a driver shouldn't have to deal with no A/C. Even though it doesn't bother me, I wouldn't let a company treat me like that.
