However after the whirl wind of the last 40 days in a very bizarre twist of events I was able to get my old job at Gordon Food Service back on night transit which almost always never happens, it's extremely rare that you quit night transit, and 40 days later get hired back into it, but management reached out to me we talks and smoothed out some rough edges will say, and I got my old job back. Weekends off, 32 mile commute round trip, pay is pretty much the same, vacation time increases and is savable and I also have predictable hours and no more waiting by the phone. Tired of beating up my 2001 Chevy to get to work as well, so it just works out for me better. ABF was good it was, but the commute was to far and was killing me and the hours were brutal. Nothing wrong with ABF good place, just wasn't right for me and my life. So I'm back at GFS "Here for good as we say." Which was my plan originally all along which why prior to this ABF job I had been at GFS for 8 years, which is a little bit of time.

I'm not leaving. I'm taking the opportunity to transfer back to Flagstaff, where I'll probably even keep my current route, more or less. I'll just have to go back to a 900-mile/week commute, but I did it before.

I do about 270 a week not including Saturday work and that’s tough enough sometimes, but I have to deal with the level of stupid that lurks in a big city. GP’s situation out there in the desert might be a far easier deal even if it is a lot more miles.

The only thing that saves me is my low mortgage. Our taxes are $850 a year and our HOA is $150 a year.

You mentioned $1900 for mortgage. That's about what my neighbors rent the same houses for.

If I can’t get a mortgage for $1000 a month on a small rancher or modular or something like that, I’m not going to bother. I refuse to get roped into $2500 a month for a $300K shoebox when my rent’s not even half that.

You are correct. Rural Arizona is a WAY different commuting world than Coastal or big city commuting. Honestly, having worked out of FLG before, I love the place. The commute is literally the only thing that will suck about it.

I guess we're gonna see. FXF is giving me a significant bonus to stay on, so if necessary, that'll buy a cheap fuel-efficient micro machine for a work car. I was thinking of maybe just getting a motorcycle again, but it wouldn't fly in the winter.

This is today. They're KILLING me with the taxes. I worked 7 days last week and did about 3400 miles. My regular run is only 2110 miles.

Thats brutal. Do you contribute to a 401k? I dont truck anymore but my paychecks look like this and I don't lose that much, Should reduce taxes a bit.
