Andyjk9 don't wait for them to call you call them everyday so they know that you are serious about becoming a truck driver I had to call all the time sometimes 2 & 3 times a day

Definately would suggest going the No Worker Left Behind route....

I'm about halfway through getting set up to take my cdl... and though there are hoops to jump through, it hasn't been un-doable. I've got my intake appointment scheduled for this week, and hopefully we'll get the training green-lit soon after.

Great point GasHauler. My husband graduated CDL school in Aug and then drove a tandem local for about 1 mnth. Now he is working OTR and the company sent him across country no trainer. He'd never even gone through a weigh station before!! He is scared to death. I know he can do this, but he is sick to his stomach everyday. Driving in messed up inner city, then Tennessee mountains etc etc, he is soo scared. This is his 3rd week OTR alone, and I feel so bad for him. He's afraid of hurting the truck, or worse someone else. He feels like he doesn't know what he is doing and yes, last night steep grade, midnight in PA and fully loaded on a country highway. Here I sit in Illinois on the phone just trying to encourage him and give good directions! So basically, what I am trying to say is MAKE SURE you get in a company that will send a trainer out with you, not just throw you to the wolves! :frown:

Also, reminder with regards to the Company "indentured servitude" route... they will charge you for training not only if you quit before your time is up, but also... if THEY FIRE YOU, even if you did nothing wrong.

So be wary of this option. If you pick a company with less-than-reputable reputation, you might get in hot water down the line.

Looks like prayers and the wife's hard work is being answered. She passed her Workkeys test Monday, and should be meeting with the career manager in the coming week. Looks like we will both be going to school November 24.

Thanks to everyone for their input.
