Good to hear you got it back on the road driver and glad you got out of that shop for less than a grand. Hope everything was good with the customer and I feel your pain. Sucks when you're up there and rapid seems like the only civilization for about 300 miles in any given direction. Hope everything worked out for you and the business relationship works out well for you.
It's been my experience that most customers that depend on trucks know that breakdowns are gonna happen. How you go about solving the problem, along with clear frequent communication, will make or break that customer relationship. My play is to notify as soon as I've got a clear idea of the problem and what my options are. When I call, I tell them what's happening, what I'm doing about it, and an ETA if possible. They get a brief moment to workshop it with me. Sometimes they might have some options I haven't thought of. This is also where you learn really how criticial that delivery time is and any flexibility they may be able to offer. Fine tune the action plan and run it. If it turns out, after jumping thru all the flaming hoops, that the customer is just going to be a short name for Richard, maybe I need to question pursuing further business with them. The relationship has to benefit both parties, or it isn't worth chasing.
Fair rate on a 2500 mile run is what it said. And he broke down 1600 miles into the run. He never mentioned the actual rate he was being paid.
We left USX back in October. Leased a truck from a friend until a few weeks ago when they wanted the truck back and just bought our own. 2009 Volvo 780. When you live on the road the 780 is pretty sweet. Putting an apu on it next month.
I'm hoping to get a 780 this week..but an '07. Has an APU, 13 speed, D12. Saw some 670's from the same fleet, similar miles, and they all looked nice but were also all sold. SO - here is hoping, anyway.
