I'm taking the driver's side on this one. Who can really do a complete PTI in 10 minutes? That would be the basis for my complaint with FMSCA.

I also think everybody got all worked up for nothing really. However, I couldn't work for a company for long that treated me that way, so I would just tell Mrs. Stalin that I would do the run but I would give written notice as soon as I was about to pull out the gate. Most companies want to let you go at the moment you give notice, so this would really put Mrs. Stalin in a predicament. Also, there's no law saying you must give your boss notice, just courtesy. But how many times do they give notice? How about never! So, when I've quit crappy companies, i never gave notice and was sure to explain why. It never hurt me getting a better job, which i usually had already lined up first.

Employers like his are a great reason to go work for yourself. Nobody likes being jerked around.

Do you write the amount of time it took next to your flag-out?

    Wow, you had a badge!

All I have to say is pick your fights wisely. It looks like you could have easily gone with the 10:04 to 20:10 and had your ten off but instead you're unemployed. Seems pretty silly by both employer and employee.

Maybe the driver manager was mad because he raised a big stink over 5 minutes.

Wouldn't be proud of that vehicle maintenance #. Some major changes should be made. Better pretrips and post trip reports should be done. And all units leaving a terminal should go through a safety lane. If this co has a in house maintenance dept they should get their butts chewed also!

Not every driver knows all of the rules. I've been in the seat for over 20yrs and I sure don't and never claim to. I do know what I've been told by DOT and also the generally important rules relating to logging. The problem is not knowing all of the rules it's that every state and Scale Officer interprets them differently. What's good one place is not good another and the scale can shut you down for any or no reason. That's the problem
