I am a firm believer in personal responsibility. I would be a hypocrite if I were to deny it as I myself carry everywhere (even in the truck if I have to drive).

Our official policy prohibits guns in the trucks. That's spelled out in the driver's handbook
Unofficially I'm pretty sure some of the guys might have a pistol stashed in their briefcase or their lunchbox.
I don't know for sure and I'm not going to start pulling sneak inspections like some kind of school-yard monitor.
It's kind of like "don't ask, don't tell" but with guns instead of gays.
If an applicant insisted on carrying a gun I'd want to know why and I probably would take a closer look at him and his history.

I'd like to see a forum for small fleet owners, too.

If you don't trust a driver to carry a gun, then I think it's rather disturbing that you might trust him to drive your truck.

But you could always make it your official policy that you don't allow guns and let him know, off the record, that what you don't know won't hurt anything in that regard.

The problem that may show up is the state laws.
While at the federal level, there is no restriction, its the states that will be the problem point.
Even having a CCW can be problematic, as not all states offer reciprocity.
Most states have regulations about transporting firearms, generally they require that it is stored in a secured location, unloaded and ammunition be separated.

California as an example of extremes, the state has a maximum of 100 rounds total, transported across state line. Also, if your magazine is greater than 10 rounds, your looking at some problems.

Unless LEO has a valid reason to search, they would need to see the firearm to take action. But it does happen.

The other thing you may want to check is what your insurance carrier has to say. The driver of your equipment is your agent.

Where's the gun going to be kept? He going to walk up to your customers like Hop A Long Cassidy?

In locked box in the truck?
He had time to go retrieve weapon, then go back, and blow someone away rather than just drive off?

Walks into office and tells you he needs to go see cops cause gun stolen off of truck seat?

    Hehe.

I always tell people learn the police baton technics. Have thumper will travel.

What about being sued by the bystander when your driver goes into spray and pray?

Well if the firearm is found in a no gun city or state like Chicago, the driver is going to jail on the spot and your truck and trailer will be impounded.

Personally, i carry. And when i am going into those areas i stop before hand and lock it up on the side box of the trailer.
