Yea. I was just wondering because some people don't know but actually having a dry fifth wheel make's the truck harder to handle steering wise and at time's can cause a trailer to dog track out of this world.

Depending upon the effort of and resulting quality and thoroughness of a pre-trip inspection, the actual number of fully accountable wheels will vary.

What is the specific criteria for counting a wheel as a wheel when related to psi?

As many of the trailers I seem to hook to often suffer from LPS (low pressure syndrome), I find it difficult in good conscience to count said wheels as full wheels.

Now what the hell was all that about....gotta lay off the Coronas this afternoon....

Oh man, I'm gettin' to this party late, so I have to make up time. HERE GOES:

Whenever someone asks me the best way to get somewhere, I always put on my most serious face and solemnly reply, "Well, if it was me, I'd drive there." Then quickly walk away.

DAMMMMMMMMMMn Sonny, it would appear that there is still some life left in the oldnewbietc still!:biggrin_2559:

I'm sure the entire world is better off that this rocket scientist is not driving a truck!:biggrin_25513:

Ever seen one collapse with a fork lift inside? I've seen both where the landing gear sunk into the asphalt, (a bit nerve wracking) and where the landing gear flatly collapsed right up through the floor boards, (#### scary) and then a pup with the long overhang past the front of the landing gear stick it's back end up in the air when the forklift got in front of the landing gear and a heavy four pallets were double stacked in it.

None of OUR pups had the landing gear that far back, but we had a morphodite in from one of our sister companies that did. Dock hand that parked it didn't notice the stabilizing bar on the front. Just dumped it in the door with the yard dog and went on to the next trailer.

I came into the dock, to find the forklift inside the trailer, the trailer's arse up in the air, and the (very shaken up) fork lift operator swearing a blue streak, with blood running down into his eyes. Guess he hit the upright when the thing tipped.

This all depends. Does the 18 wheeler have an extra tire in the rack under it? If it does, is it mounted already? Do you want to count the fifth wheel? And did you remember to grease the steering wheel at the last service? What about the wheels going round inside the driver's head, do they count as well? If the truck happens to be moved by the terminal manager, does HE count as a wheel?

Nah, just tell them it's a load of dispatcher brains. Everybody will know what you mean. . .

ive seen about 5 pups nose dive...about 75% of our pups have the dive leg in the front....the old motor cargo trailers do not have them and are infamous for nosediving

i have seen collapsed landing gear but never actually watched it collapse

Questions I have actually been asked. No foolin. 1. Dot Trainee: IQ test at a scale in Iowa. You seem like a nice enough driver. Mind if I ask you a question. Nope. They have told us a little about log books, but would like to know what the little lines are for between the hours! Pause(decide not to be a smart ##### as there was about 20 trainees standing around) Answer. Those are quarter hours 15 min 30 min 45 min. Oh Okay man I appreciate it. You have a nice day. You to officer. 2. Rookie driver on phone to Dispatcher: What do you mean look around for someone to help me. Pause- Oh alright I'll call you back. Looks at me: What's a Rand Mcnally Atlas? Me- It's a road map to help you get from Point A to Point B. Don't want to get from Point A to Point B I want to go from Syracuse to Dallas. My dispatcher said to ask the Rand Mcnally Atlas. Me- You can find them in the travel store- look for the Map section and walked away!! True stories.

I think there are alot of dummies. But that's everywhere. Relatives and friends tell me stories of co-workers that can't do their job, but they are still employed.

My brother is a retired Nuclear Plant Operator. He had one guy there that went through school with him and barely passed the test. For 30 years he was still asking questions and wasn't competant enough to be left alone. Kind of scary!! :biggrin_2556:
