Anyone remember about 20 years ago when JB Hunt started the 0.52 a mile pay?? Those drivers did more sitting than driving!

I can't figure out how anyone can pay $.52 per mile sitting the truck.

I did flatbed. I never got paid to load/unload or tarp. I only got paid to haul loads. I did get multiple stop pay but the entire load was figured in a manner that it paid the same as 1 single stop. The 1 stop load paid more then the multi stops but when you throw in the multi stops. The pay was the same.

I worked for 4 flatbed companies in my 7 years OTR. Now i'm a local tanker yanker.

To be honest I have to disagree with you. 13% increase in pay doesn't justify 50% increase in workload.

Well,it's common that additional stops pay $50 each (counted per run).In fact my first job paid $35 for each stop except first and last but counted weekly.I once did a stop (1 pallet in the tail of a trailer) in 6 (six) minutes in and out.BAM,$50!

I did reefer work for two years. Got tired of the sitting and appointments that just make you not have any regularity in you work life. I am a person that has to shut down from 2200 thru 0500. That is why I went into curtain side and never looked back. I am generally starting my day between 0600 - 0800 and ending it by 2100. It is not all about the CPM like most people focus on. It should be about three things: quality of life, hometime, and money.

I don't think I did 2000 miles the whole month of December, yet I got ~40 hours every week, only burned about 150 gallons of fuel to. if I'm not doing local I'll figure out flat rate on a load for how long it is going to take. I will never understand Milage pay, if I'm at work, I'm getting paid, otherwise the truck can sit in the driveway with covers on the exhaust.
