I drive for East Europeans out of Chicagoland. It's 1099 job though.

Last year I drove US59 very often! Houston and I 35 from Dallas to Laredo were (and probably will be again since I am back to old job) my main lanes!

I'm right off of 59, about 15 miles north of I-20.
1 bedroom apartment where I live 400 bucks a month. Lol
    And that's furnished.
I used to pay 3 months rent out of 1 paycheck. Lol.
When I'm home I have a woman clean my house,
Wash my clothes and cook my food for the road.
Cost me 75 bucks for the day.
    Dam I love Texas.

I take high paying city wages and bring it to
The country. Never had it so easy.
Load that truck up and get out of Chicago.
Put your money to work now so you can work
    Less later on.

Yeah,I map googled Jefferson (it rang some bells too). So you have a housekeeper? That's high life man! That truck isn't mine-) I pay $350 a month for a decent room in Chicago(everything included) and I don't even have a car because I have truck parking, bank and shopping center all within 2 miles radius.I will look closer at that area next time I be passing through.

If you think Chicago to Texas is cheap try Chicago to Mississippi. Heck even Texas to Mississippi lol. Super cheap. Although, if I could talk my wife into I’d be moving back to Texas

There's a flip side to this. At .50cpm he's grossing $1000 on 2000 miles. At .36cpm you have to drive 2777 miles to equal that pay.

If he drove 2500 miles in a week you would have to drive 3472 miles just to equal his pay.

No, because of accessorial pays, I don't have to drive that many miles.

I'm aware of that, but I was happy making $65K per year @ .36 cpm and only working 11 mos. per year. Some will accuse me of holding wages down, but as long as I'm content with it, that's what matters.
Tanker drivers get paid the same, loaded or empty and don't hang around truck stops waiting for a load. I drive loaded from Tennessee to California, then take 45 min to 1 hour to unload, then deadhead back to Tennessee to get my next load and get paid the same both directions. Van, reefer, flatbed drivers don't have that luxury except in extreme cases.
The customers are paying for it anyway, not the trucking company. When the customer orders a tank load of chemical, the loaded & empty miles are figured into the billing and the customer knows that and is willing to pay rather than risk possible contamination from some other chemical that may be hauled in between his loads. Majority of those trailers are dedicated to one certain chemical only and only customers that use that chemical.

Dang Chinatown, who do you drive for? Lol. I say this as I’ve been sitting here for four hours waiting on dispatch to find me an empty trailer. Been to 3 different places to no avail, so now they’re not answering my calls nor my sent messages. Sigh.
