You can get a one way from Y-town to Cincinnati for $69.50.
A little over 5 hours, leaving at 5 something pm on Sunday. Then you'd need to get from the greyhound station to the school though. But check the greyhound site, you can get ticket prices, times etc...

Snowflier, are you going to orientation to drive for Millis ? Have never heard of a company that is worth anything making to pay for your DOT physical, transportation to get there, or anything like your decribing. When I went through school everything was paid by them, even sent me a bus ticket to get to the orientation.

No, I'm not going to drive for Mills. I went and got my physical because the Secretary of State of Michigan had changed it's policy to apply for a cdl license at the office. A week later they denied ever saying that. A week later the company who hired me had me go back to the same medical center for another physical inwhich they paid for. Oh well it's only $40. I make that as chump change in tips in my current job. A typical tip for me is $100 from my customers.

If you're making a $100 bucks in tips 5 or 6 nights a week doing what you're doing ... then you don't need to come out on the road. You'll never make that much on the road for the same amount of time worked minus meals minus taxes minus other things like not getting paid the actual mileage, etc. If I was making that kind of money and could be home every night, I'd never go back on the road.

WHOA MULE .... WHOA ....STOP .... Think about this for a minute - this company won't pay a $40 physical and a $60 bus ride - does that sound like the type of company that is going to pay detention time? Layover? Practical PC Miler miles? Fix that AC when it quits on you in Nogales, AZ in July? Whew, I don't know about that.

I don't want to offend anyone, but have you properly researched and carefully considered everything? I know that no one wants to drive for Swift or Shneider, but heck, I am sure they'd take care of you better than this. And a year from now Schneider will be in the past and you'll have a real job. Be careful.

On further thought, this is their school though, and not orientation. I don't know about other trucking company schools, but the third party schools don't usually pay for transportation to school. The physical thing is a bit goofy though, as even the school I went to sent everyone for their physical, even though the fee for it was in our tuition.

Schneider isn't taking anymore students, and are actually closing their schools down in November, so they are out for school.

Millis does pay layover, detention, and Practical miles. We haven't talked to anyone there yet, but my hubby is considering applying with them in the near future (he has a year under his belt already). I have been checking out some of the companies he's interested in on the web for him, then he'll make the calls himself.

I can see a company not paying for a pre-hire physical . Suppose the applicant doesn't pass ? If they do pass and are hired the company should reimburse the employee .
The same thing for providing transportation to school . The carrier has no way of knowing if this person will complete the school .

Roehl told me where to go, about 15 miles away, and all I had to do was give them some paper from Roehl and the provider covered it.

No actually, I would get one tip of this of this type per year from my storage customers. I had to make and sell frozen pudding shots to make ends meet this past summer as I was only getting 30 hours per week from my employer. Our work is very slow.
