And those would be the ones I was referring to, that's why I said a holdover. Personally I have no need for memory on a 2 way. If the driver can't remember then why should I require my radio to.

This truck had a Cobra 29 that was left by a previous driver. I didn’t like the receive on it. It was crap compared to my old radio shack radio I’ve been dragging from truck to truck for the last 11 years. That old radio works for me better than any other I have come across in the various trucks I have moved into. Other drivers give me good reports on how good it sounds so I still like it better than any other radio I have tried. I’ve not seen a radio that needed power for its memory. I don’t run a high power so the factory installed power harness is working fine for me. The factory antennas show flat on the SWR and the radio is working great! I don’t like the reverb, echo, talkback and other sound effects I hear on the air, I can’t understand what they are saying most of the time! I prefer a clean, crisp, sounding radio so I can understand what is being said. Thanks!

Amen. I heard some of the worst radios this week. I'm always tempted to tell them "way too much echo" but they almost always act butt-hurt when you tell them

Good to hear you found an oldie but goodie that keeps plugging away. I wanted to make sure you weren't drawing too much. Unfortunately I ran across a truck before that had small gauge wire going to the power point and it wasn't pretty. Most of the radios you hear out there sounding like crap are people that don't know how to set anything where it needs to be. They always need to have more.

What I do is to not address the actual problem and challenge their ego by saying their radio is screwed, but to act innocent and say something like: Say again. My radio's making your signal sound like a canyon echo.

    I just say EH?

That usually causes about a thousand to do the teasing for me on the one who is really poor on the out put.

Big gauge wires are good. If they are too small, that radio will burn the insulation right off them creating some really intense moments for you at highway speed,

Come to think on it they pretty much did away with the cab dash based radio power inputs a long time ago.
