I agree with this. The term backhaul is a bit silly, a load is a load

I won't even look at a load right now unless it $2.00 per mile or more!

Brokers are parasites for the most part...

    WELCOME TO TRUCKING!

Might wanna find something else to make a coin at because this beast ain't slowing for anything. What you see now is what Trucking has always been about. PROFIT(S) no it doesn't matter from where it comes.
Either be a link in the chain or break off,its that simple.

With the butt load of "Professional" (minded wanna-be's) steady bank-rolls are in the futures of all who care to weather the steady flow of ####!
Some "THINK" they know Trucking and consider them selves Pro's at it.

Others adjust in their niche' and move up or down depending on the motivation/ambition.

How much do you want to make ? that is where your concern with fair rates
begins. The lower you go the less you make.

Personally it sounds like your fishing,my suggestion is to keep driving the truck your in and leave the Brokering to real time "Brokers!

I see where you are coming from in calling most brokers parasites, however I unfortunatly have to look at the big picture, there are alot of great drivers, more than there are bad that is for #### certain, however just as there are brokers, there are plenty of trucking companies..that will hang you out to dry when they get the chance..its an unfortunate side of the business world, when there is money involved there will always be the bad guys. In my office, there are 1000 brokers, alot of them i would rather see get run over by a semi, but there are about 100 of us that I can think of, that truly want to do honest business and in reality care about the drivers they work with, just as much as the customers. A works near me is having 300 dollars a check deducted from his pay ( believe me hes no hotshot he is maybe making 500 a week if that) because he wrote an anauthorized comcheck to a driver who couldnt find a load to cover his fuel out of florida so he could make it home in time to see his son be born. There was nothing in it for him but he knew that driver was in a bind...in my opinion it is people like that who need to run this industry

Ill have to give my two cents on this...If I were fishing, Id make ten calls on truckstop.com, check my companies rate matrix, and run the lane on transcore.com. What I am trying to do is create something that is fair to both parties. Plain and simple. Real profit comes from volume, not greedy margins. That is the difference between a greedy salesman and a businessman. As I said. my fee is 150 per load ( wich I keep 25% of ) aside from the trucks rate and fuel cost. My profits are not hidden inside my rate, they are billed seperatly. everything else is visible to both parties.

Another problem is, take today for example, Ive got 10 loads from ok- pa 1450 miles dry freight, ill pay 3000 on them, wich is a good rate a feel, its 100$ less than I have in the load. every driver I talk to for the most part will hear that rate and immediatly think he can get more. they just tell me yes they want the load and then stop answering the phone for 4 hours onl to call back that afternoon and say they still want it

It might have more to do with not being able to get a decent rate out of PA.
