Ok, Lets say your net is $2400 per week after all expense- Thats over $125k per year salary... You gonna be responsible enough to pay $35k in income taxes? Think not- You'll get too comfy with the money-And "something" will come up (Always does with people that cant handle money)

But lets say you do pay your income taxes- So now, Your down to 70k for the year- Was it worth it?? Heck No its not for all that work and time-

You could "Net" 70k per year working a good city job- or being an electrician or plumber.

I could have gone and worked for Lockheed Martin like the rest of my classmates did, but I enjoy trucking. Having just finished a scenario like that (last year) and I’d have done it again. Only worked 35 weeks, went to more truck shows and spent more time working on a few projects.

Though if I had done that working all year (125k net), say 6 days a week, I’d be looking to make changes. I agree that it would be too little for what we have to do.

I had an $8500 week once. Literally everything went perfect. I've never did more than 7k since then. And those were still perfect weeks

Taxes is a big one. First couple, three years great. Then depreciation over and payments still due. Our Uncle Sam wants a larger cut. Yes one can buy more equipment etc. Hard to purchase enough to not pay taxes. You are correct on good driver pay without all the owner op hassel. But I like the freedom..what little is left of owner op. Sometimes I wonder.....though.

It can be done, but not likely if you're leased onto a company, or buying your own equipment with a high payment. I've been an O/O a little over a year, and paid cash for a new truck and trailer and have my own authority. Even with my lower overhead, there have been great weeks and not so great. Long hauls across country are not where the money is made because your fuel costs are eating into your profits on a much larger scale than short runs with higher cpm rates. I mostly do regional within 600 miles of home, and the most money is made on loads within 200 miles from home. It has a lot to do with where you live and how much freight moves near you. I'm lucky in that regard, but it's still hard work. Like most O/O's I try for $1,000 per day gross. Some days I hit that goal, other days I surpass it, and some I can't reach it. Everybody has their own way of doing things, and you need a pretty good business sense to survive in this business. Buying equipment and expecting to survive from the load boards isn't a good business plan, and most of those drivers fail within a year or two.

You don't have to pay Federal taxes on the whole 125k. File as a s-corp and save money taxes. Pay ourself a per diem which is tax free. You shouldn't be paying 55k in taxes on that 125k. Well I know I #### sure won't be.

Form a LLC but the truck in your name and rent/lease the equipment to your company.
