Weird, I think it’s the slobs who leave trash all over and aren’t clean that make the industry look bad. And I’ve never thought to ask one of them if they have an apartment or a house.

I remember my beginnings that recruiter from Schneider National asked did I have a significant other that may get upset at me being gone weeks on end? I then was told that they will issue me a Condo man he talked it up. I went to training and shared a room with a weird ###. Then the day came to meet the Condo boy did he lie lol what condo.

Long haul trucking is a tough job. I don’t intend to do this for more than 10 years. My goal is to wrap it up by 35. I either buy a large multifamily property or build a fleet. I refuse to work until 65. I believe it can be done with a high income job, low personal expenses, and sound investing.

Yes, I will continue to “work” after reaching this level, but that’s only because there’s nothing left to do. The difference would be that I will call the shots every time. I can do whatever I want, however long I want, and with whatever schedule I please. That’s the life that I envision. Others have already achieved it and have posted plenty of advice on the web. This is no get-rich-quick scheme as you won’t necessarily be “rich,” but you will be able to live permanently without having to work.

My original plan is to stay until wife graduates, I got two years left. Then I’ll be back to doing something where I’m home every night. This isn’t a career anymore it’s a minimum wage job.

the vets are sitting pretty the newbs are not. The party is over.

The money is there, but you have to be willing to do things nobody else is willing to do. I am aware that what I do can be seen as crazy, but I don’t really care as long as it brings results. I’d rather knock myself out working hard while I am young than to wait until my 60s. I’m already getting old. My parents are getting old. I want to have kids some time in my 30s.

In this life, you cannot be successful in every area of your life. I am sacrificing my youth and even family time with hopes that I can overcome this slavery of work. I believe it’s a goal worth striving for.

by gods grace I am able to keep a roof over my family’s head and be a single earner family of 4, while my kids enjoy the things I didn’t have, the reason I want to get out is because my son and daughter are reaching an age where I believe they need a father figure full time in the house to help them understand the and navigate the bs in this world.

this job would have been fine if society itself wasn’t teaching kids bs.

Im passed 40 now so I have worked for myself since I was 21 I believe I can make the same money being home doing other things like acquiring a skill and rebuilding my business that I shut down.

I don’t mind the hours or hard work as a man I have to do what I have to do to get my family where they need to be just in case something happens to me, reason why wife decided to continue her education. After her it’s me.

just so you know I’m 1.5 years in as an owner op and started in this industry as an owner op, I weathered 2019 with the grace of god and now I’m starting to be in the black. To me that speaks volumes.

I originally got in thinking if I learn the industry I can do things like diesel mechanic or other things that are more in support of drivers, I have my thoughts and ideas on paper but every which way I look this industry is no longer the one that was 20-30 years ago, the vets are riding the last wave and retiring, the job is fixing and weeding out the idiots but it’s at a slower pace and can’t keep up with the influx of people who shouldn’t be in it. This it’s doomed to fail.

I’m getting the feeling brokers are being phased out to automation apps like convoy, then owner ops being squeezed out by megas, and after that small time shops that support the industry.
The industry is changing enjoy it while you can but always have an exit plan.

Getting your own contracts seems hard to do. Sorry I know this is old thread. But I just posted asking similar. If the loadboard isn’t the best plan and getting your own contracts that can keep u busy 5 days a week. What else is their?

Never listen to the ads. The ads are BS.

If you want to be an owner operator then you need to do it because you want to do it not because you think there's a lot of money at the end of the rainbow.

That's like saying you can't wait to get married because you're looking forward to having a simple uncomplicated relationship with minimal problems but if anything happens you can instantly dissolve it in just a few minutes...

    Not quite...

I only do 4-5k a week, leave the house Monday mid morning/early afternoon, home Friday by noon usually, 12-1500 miles. Running 3500 miles 7 days a week to gross 6k isn’t that impressive.

I have a lot more write offs available then a company driver and I can’t stand over educated bean counters that have never sat in a truck in their life trying to run trucks

Not to grind anyone’s gears, but as you stated in a previous post you couldn’t make it 20 years ago when truckin was still kind of truckin and you say probably where is this info from?
