I think Swift is garnishing my paycheck making me pay for a tow.

I didn't notice it until the most recent paycheck, but I haven't gotten a deposit the last two weeks. The offices are closed right now so I can't call and ask. Over Thanksgiving my truck (company driver) got towed while I was on hometime for Thanksgiving. The fee was something like $1600 for the towing and storage fee for 4 days. The truck sat over the weekend because the department I needed to get the truck out of storage is closed on the weekends.

Last week my paycheck was small because my truck was in the shop and I had hometime so I didn't realize it, but I didn't get a direct deposit last week. I went back and looked and I had an "advance" of the net of my paycheck of around ~$400.

This week I grossed ~$1500 and my pay stub says I won't be getting a check because "advances" of the net amount of the check.

I'm a company driver and I can't think of any other reason I wouldn't be getting a paycheck besides Swift making me pay back the tow fees.

I'm going to call tomorrow and try to figure it out, but it's the only thing I can think of.

Is this normal for a company to do?

I parked at Walmart on Thanksgiving. The store was closed so it got towed.

Some companies do that. Usually it's in the contract you sign when you get hired on.

If u go on FB marketplace or Google, u can find truck parking lots near ur house. Probably $150-$200 a month. Keep the truck stop parking for driver who need it for their 10, and don't have to worry parking at private property and getting towed

You didn’t have to pay the towing and storage to get the truck back? Receipts?

    Yes.

It depends on the state you live in, but as far as I'm aware, it's even legal in this particular case. You can and should consult with an employment lawyer, but as long as you made minimum wage I think your company is within their rights.

Why should they have to pay for your mistake? You probably signed something orientation giving them the right to recapture money drivers cost the company due to their lack of knowledge or out right stupidity.

So you parked on someone else's property without their permission and they had your trash removed from their lot but somehow this is Swift's responsibility? Not only should they make you pay for it but they should fire you as well.

I am sorry this happened to the OP. More and more I am hearing of what was once great places to park a CMV no longer allows parking AND WILL hook the vehicle out. Most of the blame for this goes to 3 things that historically follow trucks. Noise, Trash, Drugs and Prostitution! There was once a place near where I lived that had parking for 3 rigs. Large rocks are blocking the entrance now. The owner was told by the police to stop the parking or they would. More and more this is happening. I would be willing to bet that any member of this forum who has been driving for a year or longer has already seen this dynamic! Sad, really sad!

You're an actual company driver not a lease operator?
