DOT regulations require you have a sleeper on overnight trips. If they can't provide that then the company is responsible for the motel. Only a dummy would sleep in the seat.

kdryan, you're 3 day run is your 3 day orientation, lol. Rental truck, who cares? You make it back in one piece, you pass!

Go in with a positive attitude. It takes more than a day to judge the company. They are probably in a bind and you're definately low man on the totem pole.

They might just be asking you because they are in a jam and need drivers to run overnight or whatever. Ask them straight up if this will be the norm or only once in a while. If you can handle it now and then it might be worth it if you like the company. If you really don't wanna run otr then just tell them now before you get caught up in their 'funwheel' ..haha. And if they say they can't use you then screw 'em and go somewhere else.

If I was a company owner and some new guy came in after a long period of unemployment, I would expect he would be happy enough just to have a job that he'd be willing to pull the occasional overnighter.

If I was the new guy' I'd take the run with a smile in my voice so the boss would know I'm not some pain-in-the-butt prima dona who b****es about everything.

But I know what the job market looks like in Michigan, too. That unemployment rate still running about 20%? There must be 50 guys standing around looking for your job who won't hesitate or complain about a regional run once in a while.

Hate to bust everyone's bubble who thinks otherwise, but it's not a drivers' market right now. Trucking companies can pretty much pick whoever they want and get rid of whoever they want. We just need to suck it up a bit longer until the market turns...then put the screws to the companies. It's all about timing.

take the #### job, this could be your little test. if you turn this down you could be done. for all you know they might need this to be ran and have no one that could do it or maybe none of their drivers will do it so they figure they'll try you. who knows, you might show up and do the paperwork then. just if you do go and have to pay for a hotel or sleep in the truck (which in my eyes is still worth it since they are offering you the chance) bring a 2x8 to lay across the seats to sleep, it isnt comfortable but when you gotta crash for a little bit it'll do the trick. lol. i know from experience.

yeah but now how much money did you lose by not getting the original day run you were scheduled to be on......????

i take the "no big deal" as a sign of disappointment.

since they asked you if you could "do a run", they probably already got you pegged as someone they cannot depend on now in the future to help them out of a jam........can you say "stuck and no where to go".........?????
