If a CDL is the only requirement for instant hire why pay 50k+?

How does a person with no work history who is 41 and a habitual felon get jobs at multiple companies big and small if anything in the replies is true? These companies don't care

Regarding McDonald's: I'm pretty sure they didn't hire these people even when they were paying 8.25 an hour. They probably at least factor work history.. Someone 24+ who has never held a job will be a waste of money and just go back to living off family

I was told by every boss I ever had they turn away job hoppers and adults who lived with their parents, or never worked, all the time. This is exclusive to trucking...

My argument: if it's so easy why pay more than skilled jobs? These type of people HAVE to drive a truck cause your industry is the only one hiring them....

Companies can, and do look at employment history - it's required of them. But if someone has never had a job, they can't use that against them, other than the fact that the person may be really lazy and not a good worker. Criminal, well probably not so much as long as you're not an ax murderer or something.

The assumption that most of the public are going to jump in a truck, leave home for an extended period of time for $30k a year? Yeah right. Why the heck would they do all that when they can live better off the government and do all the drugs they want?

When I started in trucking I hadn't worked a real job in over 3 years. all you need to do is to be able to document what you were doing during that period. Periods of unemployment, even if you are voluntarily unemployed and not collecting Unemployment Insurance are ok if you can provide references that can verify. Some companies may not accept this but many companies are ok with it.

Supply and demand for drivers can set the rates. If a company has empty trucks they might be willing to pay more for a driver. My company wants to expand their fleet. So they can’t just pay the lowest rate per mile and hope they get or keep drivers. They pay what they think is enough to keep the drivers.
