A dot officer has the right to enter your cab to do a vehicle inspection and doesn't need any reason to do so. Your mattress has regulations even though we forget about that. As well as safety restraints, fire extinguisher, proper seat mounting and the list goes on. If I remember correctly they can check all property that is owned by the company, you only occupy the companies space. Your property is off limits unless you submit to it or probable cause exists. Just remember that the can make it harder on you, they get paid by the hour we don't. We are supposed to act professionally as well as they are. I'm not saying to give up any rights but why not just make it easier on you.

Read the green book. 393 subpart g. Plenty for them to inspect inside the cab if they want.

Why did you start this post if you are going to argue or disagree with what others post?

It's like anything else. If they want to get inside they will and there is nothing you can do about it as long as they are a certified dot inspector of course. As long as they are in the scope of their inspection and find something illegal, the officer can use that against you.

I was in law enforecement 7 years. There are alot of if ands and buts that can happen. Just remember the saying ask and they shall receive. If you ask for trouble you will get it.

In the past police could not search your truck without your permission, without probably cause. The Patriot Act gave the police more authority to break down your door without a warrant. I would not allow anyone to search my truck without a warrant. Going on a military base, any vehicle is subject to be searched. It is a condition of entering the base. I have had my truck searched many times when entering a military installation. As long as you are respectful and polite, it should not be a problem.
