Schools aren't an issue - we homeschool. That actually changes how we view a few states. TN isn't high on our list because of the regulations required to homeschool. As a former school teacher I could technically school anywhere, but I prefer fewer hoops.

There are ways around that, I know, I worked the system. They shipped my kid across town for her entire time in HS. No problem with elementary either. Really the only problem that irritates me is if you live less than 2 miles, you walk. 5 year olds don't walk 2 miles, never could figure that out. But honestly the growth of the valley slammed the schools. They are building like crazy. They just put a brand new school right across the street. My house value went through roof.

Home schooling is not a problem, in fact they push for it here.

I couldn't be a teacher; my patience wears thin quickly in that environment. So many relatives are teachers/professors, including my sister and mother, brother-in-law and probably a dozen others. I respect them for it, but doesn't suit me at all. Like that late night trucking too much.

I walked to school five miles, uphill each way, while fighting cougars and coyotes.

Barefoot? It doesn't count unless you were barefoot.

Wife and kids? I sure as hell wouldn’t want to live anywheres near the oil patch then.
