French Ellison and Rush are about twenty minutes from me. I live just outside of San Antonio.

Why? Are you kidding around, or is there something I should know about them? I thought they were solid.

Everyone, thanks for your help. I didn't see any alerts, so I thought this thread died. I wasn't trying to ignore anyone!

@tommymonza do you do your own rebuilds? I've rebuilt 12-valve Cummins diesels before, but nothing on the scale of a semi truck engine.

Haven’t done a diesel yet but in the past have done hi performance car/ boat motors and marine 2 stroke outboards.

Something that spins 6000 rpms is more likely to rear its ugly head if you screw up than one turning 1500-2000rpms.

I wrenched on my Volvo and Yanmar marine diesels for years. They were smaller non sleeved motors and at the time I was swimming in money so out with the old in with the new when they were worn out.

I am not intimidated by working on one at all , their stupid simple to rebuild as long as you keep track of your tolerances and buy quality parts .

Cleanliness is next to godliness doing rebuilds.

I don’t always know what I am doing but I will find some one that does and research their info to make sure it is correct and work from there

I approach every thing I work on with the mentality that I don’t ever want to repeat this process because I screwed it up or scrimped on parts.

Time is Money. Life is Priceless. Life is too Short .

I originally was shopping for a preemission 12.7 Detroit after getting educated on this site for a few years.

Stumbled upon a clean truck that was not the brand I wanted with a n-14 red top Cummins.

After looking over the Cummins and doing the research I wouldn’t own anything else.

I love the ease of workability with the 3 individual heads and non over head cam.

Better to wrestle off a 50 pound head than a single 200 pound head.

Cam is buried in the block where it gets good oiling.

Accessory drive is easier to replace.

I saw that one yesterday. I'm heading up to look at the first Star, and maybe I'll check out this one on my way back. If the first truck is in reasonable shape for the miles, I'm going to get an oil sample. If it checks out, I'll go back up there and get it.

Better built and tougher than KW. Well the older, Canada-built Stars anyways. After Daimler bought them they're not as good as they once were. Still like them better than a Peterbilt myself.

It’s too bad this sold a couple weeks ago. I contacted the owner about buying it just because it appeared to be a solid truck for the money

I have a 1997 9300 that I paid 15 ooo for but needs tires and brakes.

I was originally looking for a Freightliner Classic because I like the big 84 inch sleeper.

Glad I found my 9300 now that I have it. Only a 72 inch sleeper compared to a Classic 84 and it is laid out a little weird but if your handy that can be rectified .

But being I wanted to go flatbed also and this is by far the best midroof for interior room out there I think.

I like that the sleeper height is carried into the cab and there is no partial bulkhead wall between the cab and sleeper

My Western Star I drove was the same way. I could stand up in the cab.

The international has a ton more room in it being the sleeper sides are absolutely vertical while the Western Star is maximum width at floor level and than curves in

It steals a lot of room

The western star you showed and the one I showed our the older style where the height of the sleeper does not carry into the cab like the newer ones. Mine was a 4900 sb

1st pic is my international 9300

2nd pic was my company 4900sb Western Star 2D39804B-2A91-42C6-ABC2-51255CDCC50C.jpeg 692F8D4D-2E75-4B40-B064-E20850CBD28D.jpeg
