By the time you are told you are getting fired probably the most you can do is ask if they will let you resign rather than being fired.
I doubt there is much you could do to avoid having some dirtbag driver breaking your mirror, beside nosing into a parking space, but that leads to other problems.
If you think you’re going to get fired is it worth quitting 1st

You're fired. You can't fire me, I quit!!!
Guess what, you are fired.
You really have not thought this through, have you?
Once you told your company about the damage it was out of your hands.
They either believe what you tell them or they don't.
If they believe you, you will be in the shop for a day so they can fix your mirror and you will be on your merry way. If they don't, well...
I don't know where you work, but is there a company dash cam installed that might have recorded the incident?Sirscrapntruckalot, 201 and Albertaflatbed Thank this. -
Moosetek beat me to it,,the last great act of defiance, "YOU CAN'T FIRE ME, I QUIT" followed by a punch or expletives, with accolades from the other drivers.
If a mirror is a terminating offense, your company will be one of the 88,000 trucking companies that went under( still hard to believe that number) Certain things a company should recognize as "part of doing business", and mirrors are certainly fair game. Just write it up, the pluses of a company driver.
Gee, boss, beats me how that happened,,,

You work for a lenient company. They didn't fire you for using your phone while driving they probably won't fire you for this. Most places would toss you without question over the phone incident.
As far as your DAC goes, they won't be able to say they fired you for the phone, mirror or whatever specifically. Instead they'll mark you as having an accident or that you were terminated for a safety issue.
There aren't any specifics reported to HireRight like that. Everything is just general and vague with no details. The details will come from you and/or your previous employer if they call them and they agree to go into explanations.
If I were you I would not quit unless you have an official start date with a new employer first. Now is not a good time to be looking for an OTR job.
