Well I just got off the phone with my TMC recruiter, and she is telling me that I have to get my permit in IL, take the CDL tests in Iowa, and they send those results to IL and they legally have to accept it (or something to that affect)

I don't know what's going on in Illinois right now. Don't want to tell you something that turns out not to be accurate.

What the Maverick recruiter meant RE: Illinois not accepting an Ar. CDL was, you have to retake all the tests and road test to get an Illinois CDL. Most states you just possibly take a written test to switch your license, BUT NOT ILLINOIS ! !

^ What he said. For basically every state except IL and CA they’d have you get an AR CDL through the program, then simply go back to your home state and pay to have it transferred. IL and CA however require you to start the whole testing process over again (written, pre trip and driving plus any endorsements) to transfer. You’ll need to find a company who will allow you to hold a permit in Illinois while going through the training program and then return to Illinois to test for your CDL.

They’ve certainly toughened up the process of obtaining a George Ryan CDL there now

    Technically correct. 49 CFR 383.79

Be careful. Issue we’re dealing with presently is that states are REFUSING to comply with aforesaid regulation.

Have a backup plan, in case Illinois refuses to accept the results.

The reason Illinois is so tough is they used to be a lot easier until some parts fell off a truck driven by one of those out-of-state transfer guys, and the part pierced the gas tank of a minivan full of kids, incinerating everyone. Until then, the scam was to sleep on a couch in Iowa for ten days, get your Iowa CDL, then transfer it to Illinois to avoid the 4-6 week Illinois courses.
