So the update is I'm off the truck. I emailed my coordinator the reasons (she'll see that on Monday) and both me and my trainer called dispatch. Uncontested divorce. Now I'm in a Motel 6. Off-duty.

Not sure where this puts me with the company. There were a few other issues I had with my trainer than what I posted on here. And some I posted but deleted. If the company wants to hear my side and find me a good trainer then that'd be great. If they throw me under the bus then I'll just roll out the other side and go on with my life.

    So be it.

Good for you for standing your ground and I hope the company understands and helps you.

If they fire you oh well. Someone else will hire you just as quickly. A word of advice, if you need to interview with another company don't bad mouth the company/trainer you were with. Say you couldn't see eye to eye and leave it at that.

What I do think is BS is that she, as a trainer abandoned you. Never never ever would I have left a student at a cheap motel without any transportation. I kicked a few off the truck but always had them at a terminal. Kinda hope she hangs for that one.

Sorry to hear that. Don't sweat it. It seems a lot worse than it really is. Think my main concern is what they put on your dac. Do they even have those any more? Everything happens for a reason. Maybe that company wasn't your cup of tea. Take it as a learning lesson and move on.

Hopefully you get a new trainer that respects the rules and mentor process.

It's nice to see another driver who's willing to stand by his/her principles, even though it would have been easier to go with the flow of a crooked trainer and/or company. Needless to say, many of us have run into the same kind of BS and I'm guessing that trainer may very well "represent that company as a whole" so it would be nice to have you simply share their name with us. This simple act might help spare another driver from going through the same crap as what you've had to experience.

BTW, in light of what has happened, don't forget to document document document the major stuff that happened so you've got it in writing for potential future use (especially if you don't have a great memory). Good luck tomorrow!

You need to show a reasonable amount of time to fuel and drop and hook if your logs are checked in an audit or roadside inspection. Fueling can be done in 5-10 minutes or whatever time it really takes, you dont have to log the time you spend going inside for the receipt. A by the book drop and hook should take roughly 10-15 minutes to do adequately. A pre/post trip of an already hooked rig can be logged with the actual time it takes you. Everyone does thing differently so what works for me, may not work for the next person. However I would "try" to do what your trainer asks you to do within reason. When you get out on your own you can do it how you see fit.

I guess what I was saying is theoretically you could do both pre and post trips while off duty. I too am a fan of a thorough post trip. Go on duty for a pre-trip just to find a tire flat or whatever and you'll be burning your clock till it gets fixed. Of course you have to show 15 mins so use that time to wash up or grab a coffee etc. I always log on duty fuel 15 mins. Drop and hook 15 to 30 mins depending.

You are taking the word of a barely out of school rookie. He has no idea what a crooked trainer is. More likely the trainer was trying to teach him in a way that would actually make his career easier and more profitable. Who would you have rather had as a trainer, DOT official or actual veteran trucker?
