Easiest thing would be to order the correct shift bar housing and change it in chassis.

next would be change it out of chassis.

Then take the whole trans back and exchange for the correct one.

I will check your VIN in the AM if nobody beats me to it

CB5DFD74-DEE2-45E5-BC51-CF108EC1301B.jpeg Just went out and flipped the shift tower around the opposite way for the hell of it. Didn’t change much, maybe an inch.
Here is a pic of the shifter in neutral. Rests on dash

Will that shift bar housing come through the shifter plate hole?
Or is this just too much a pain in the ### and should I just drop the trans.
    What would you do

Why cant you just go back to peterbilt and exchange the top plate for your old one. Pop it on the new trans and good to go.? You should be able to access all bolts through shifter hole. Then slide it back behind trans and out. You will have to remove driveshaft for better access from rear. Dont forget a new top plate gasket

If you bought the trans as a part- new reman. I would take it back to them and make them do it. If you bought a reman I would not want the old shift bar housing in my new reman. Plus you will be voiding any warranty if it goes south somehow.

If your pressed for time and really don't wanna pull it out. Ask them to get you the correct, new shift bar housing and a new gasket and swap it in chassis. Give them back the wrong one. Its the least they can to for the order mistake.

well pete ordered it and its just a reman. They took my core and shipped to the reman. So yeah, i definately wont be using my old one. I can tell this reman housing is much tighter than my old one. Ill call them tomorrow and tell them about the whole fiasco and see what they say. I assume they will probably get them to ship a new housing and ill have to try and yank the old one out of the shifter hole in the cab. What a pain in the ase

not enough clearance to get it out the back with the forks hanging beneath the housing. Can i get it through the shifter plate hole in a 379?

Eaton reman or a local house rebuild? My local builder takes better care of my customers. Mistakes happen. Just too bad you didnt notice sooner is all.

I would just yank it, as hard a pill that is to swallow.
