That is right. I didnt have the work done on the truck i have, it was the previous owner for the work they did I dont understand why he didnt just have a reman put in because they replaced everything. As far as the cummins go a basic inframe with 3 reman heads from cummins was about 8500 the kit from cummins is 4500 with the heads around here local shops will inframe one for around 6000-7000 and give u some warranty on it. You can go with some aftermarket stuff if u choose and get it a little cheaper but I myself will stick with the oem parts. You also dont have to replace the heads if you dont want and that would bring the price down considerbly just dont let her blow or chances are ur going to pay the big money. I beleave the n14 remans run around 15-20 thousand as well.

Like I said I didnt do it just have the paper work on it and verified it with the shop before I bought it. It threw a rod and ruined the block according to the shop I will have to look at the bill but they replaced everything, plus the clutch and they replaced the drums and pads at the same time so that ran it up a lttle as it was on the bill as well.It ran 900,000 before the overhaul. I personally wouldnt have put 20000 in it at that point but they did, the driver then drove it 35000 miles and tore the transmisson out of it and had a reman put in. I got it at that point paid the payoff on it and paid the trans bill on it. I have ran it about 10000 miles with no trouble.

How did this happen? You do want at least 6 months of company driver experience. There are companies that will provide you that if your record and background are acceptable enough to get your own authority.

How many miles does the average engine get before needing an overhaul?

that's enirely dependant on maintenance and a god bit of luck.

it can go 500k or it can go 1.5 million. literally, it's impossible to say.

some general guidlines would be about 700k on a detroit with decent maintenance. I've had two go to a million but that was with exceptional maintenance and then again, luck. I had one go 200k and blow up so you just never know.

cats will generally go well over a million although the new emission motors run so hot all of them seem to be dying early deaths. Look at truck paper and it's disturbing to see so many trucks with fresh inframes at 500k.

newer cummins are probably on par with detroits, I'm no expert though. old cummins your looking at an inframe every 400k

Checking in. Possibly great things in the works. I've been doing some fantastic trucking since thursday. About $3 a mile from a farmer about 10 miles from my house, 8 repeat loads over and over. Guy says I'm crazy using a broker, there's a crapload of work around here for a hopper. I've been in my own bed every night, making money, the sun is shining, truck is running great, no scales, corn wants out of this trailer bad, flows like a river, no beating the trailer or climbing around sweeping.

    I can't go back to chicken meal.... I won't!

He wants a quote to take some beans about 125 miles on monday to Cargill. I'm a bit lost and off the reservation on this one. I threw it to my broker but he has dropped the ball and didn't call him. I figure you can't compete if they don't want it. Lots to discuss though and figure out and consider.

If you have your own authority, in this case intrastate, you could haul for the farmer yourself. If you are under a brokers authority could get in trouble. Probably wouldn't unless someone turned you in.

No we don't lease on. I have my own authority, tags, ins, etc.

The other thing is I really am not hesitant to include my broker, I just want the local gravy work at good rates. I can't buy all the things they handle for 10%, fuel cards, billing and collecting, managing the loads. I just want them to get it done for me.

It's just that I have a good rapport with this farmer, he seems to want to help me out and give me some connections, let me know who to stay away from (bad payers etc), but my broker wants to put him through the whole formal battery of operations, references, credit checks, contracts. I'm worried it will scare him away.
