Generally the issue is to be a full time employee you have to have a license from your base state. Since it may take some time to get all the required approvals and endorsements they don't want to hire you. Then 2 months after you start run into issues and then they have to start over with a new driver or wait til you sort it out

I realize that you are correct or this wouldn't be the issue that it is. With that said, I've never heard of a company driver having to change his state of residency to get a job. I live in AR. If I wanted drive for a company based out of Memphis, TN, I wouldn't have to get a TN license....or would I?

I've only driven one company job and that was for Maverick based here in AR, so this is a new one on me. I'm just trying to find out what the legal explanation is for this. I have been researching it on the computer...no luck so far. A couple of calls to TX dmv have been deadends.

First thing you need to know is to get a Texas License they require you have your personal vehicles registered in Texas.

Strange law if you ask me.

It's all about squeezing as much money out of you as possible. It probably makes it hard on illegals also.

That was my thoughts as well....except I was thinking it would be nice if they would make it hard on illegals...lol

Whatever they are doing with illegals doesn't seem very effective.

Interviewing with a company in San Antonio tomorrow via phone. I know there are higher paying outfits out there, but I also know that driving out there without a savings fund can backfire something fierce.

Anyone know much about San Antonio?

Interstate trucking, you can keep your home state license.
Intrastate trucking, the state may require you to transfer your license to the state you are working in. I know Wyoming requires this, as does Texas.

That's the explanation I was looking for. I thought that might be the actual reason for it, I just couldn't find it anywhere. Thanks!
